We are delighted to introduce Evelyn Timson, who has supported our City Of Change campaign through Aspect Film and Video.
Why did you join the City Of Change campaign?
We decided to join City of Change because we identified some time ago that we have very few college aged new starters in our business/industry and we felt that this created a lack of youth diversity.
What do you think young people may contribute to your company?
We focus primarily on video content for advertising and branding purposes. Our clients are a wide range of regional and national brands across a variety of sectors from food & drink, hotels and leisure to telecoms and high tech companies. We feel a more diverse representation of young people will help in the creative ideation for our clients, and in how content gets reflected across a multitude of media platforms. We are also looking for junior talent across our camera, edit, production and marketing teams.
What do you hope younger people may contribute to your company?
New and fresh thinking, different perspectives and social media savvy.
What do you think companies may be missing by having a lack of younger voices/influence in the company?
All businesses thrive by developing and retaining talent, we have been very successful in growing our teams over the last 5-6 years but we don’t have many new or entry level voices. We hope working with younger people will bring some different perspective and ideas to the table.
What advice do you wish someone had given you at the start of your career?
Don’t mistake confidence for competence. As a society we misinterpret displays of confidence as a sign of competence, and often less qualified or capable people get promoted and progress. It is important to know your subject and consider your responses, but don’t ever assume that your contribution is lesser than others.
