We are delighted to introduce Helena Berglund, who has supported our City Of Change campaign through True To Nature.

Why did you join the City Of Change campaign?

We felt that joining ‘City of Change’ gave us an exciting opportunity to work with Babbasa on establishing a work experience scheme, which we’ve been looking at doing for some time. We know Babbasa will help us connect with a more diverse cohort of young people than we have been able to connect with previously.

What do you think young people may contribute to your company?

We think they will bring new perspectives! We think they will bring different ways of working and different ways to approach a project.

What do you hope younger people may contribute to your company?

A fresh way of looking at things. When new people join a company they always bring new ideas but younger people tend to come with fewer preconceptions and more energy!

What do you think companies may be missing by having a lack of younger voices/influence in the company?

Especially right now I think companies may be missing the ways in which young people connect with each other – the different communication platforms – and what messages/ issues of the day are important to them. We can guess, but we are looking forward to finding out for sure. Specifically for us, it’s interesting to hear how young people access media, and what kind of television they want to watch.

What advice do you wish someone had given you at the start of your career?

To persevere. Getting into any industry is hard but getting into the media – expect rejections and also for people not to get back to you but keep trying and don’t take it personally, they are just busy. When you find someone who you connect with keep in touch with them as even if they can’t give you a job themselves they’ll be able to help and advise you. Also, to be really open to all opportunities – all work experience is relevant experience. Finally – take your time, it pays off in the longer term.
